Seeking God

Devotions:

God has made us to be satisfied only in Him. So it is not wrong to seek to be totally satisfied in Him. To seek to be satisfied and fulfilled from any other person or thing is idolatry.  John Piper says that God gets the most glory when we are the most satisfied in Him. When we realize that we were made for Him and that through Jesus Christ we have total access to the Father.  When we believe that our Father longs to fulfill us, to totally satisfy us in every aspect of our lives we will relentlessly pursue Him until we find His presence. In doing this we usually have to lay down things that God shows us that get in the way of the relationship. Whatever we put down at His direction will be more than made up for by the blessings that we receive from Him. God calls us to be willing to lay everything down in favor of Him. He may not require us to totally do but to be willing.

“Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up." ‭‭James‬ ‭4:4-10‬ ‭KJV‬‬
