God's Path

Devotions:

“The reward of humility and the fear of the LORD Are riches, honor and life. Thorns and snares are in the way of the perverse; He who guards himself will be far from them.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭22:4-5‬ ‭NASB‬‬

God is the source of all blessings.  When we walk humbly with the Lord we are looking totally to Him for all our needs.  To be in pride is to think and act like we do not need the Lord.  The more you understand that without Him you can do nothing, John 15: 5, the more you will quit being frustrated and walk in the full provision of a loving Father. The fear of the Lord is to walk in obedience.

“Now it came about after these things, that God tested Abraham, and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am." He said, "Take now your son, your only son, whom you love, Isaac, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I will tell you."

He said, "Do not stretch out your hand against the lad, and do nothing to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me."”

‭‭Genesis‬ ‭22:1-2, 12‬ ‭NASB‬‬

Abraham's obedience was not just a blind obedience, he was demonstrating that he believed God would raise up nations from Isaac even if he sacrificed him as God had told him to do.  The fear of the Lord is obeying Him because He is incomparably smarter and wiser than you are.. So our fear of the Lord as it talks about in Proverbs is listening to His counsel and following it to riches, honor and life.  God shows us the path to riches, honor and life and we honor Him by believing Him and taking that path.  When we stray from His path, thorns and snares await us.  These are not God's doing but the enemy.  God is trying to warn us and keep us from the thorns and snares.  Will we listen? In listening to God and obeying we guard ourselves from the thorns and snares of the devil.
