Reason for the Law

Devotions:
“Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.” Romans 3:19-20 KJV
We are not made righteous or justified by keeping the law. All our efforts so be pleasing to God by doing things right, keeping the law are in vain. We must know that our right standing with our Father God is exclusively through the work of Jesus on the cross and none of it is ourselves. The Holy Spirit ministers the truth of the cross to us and we either receive it or reject it.
Our Christian walk then is not by keeping the law but by following the leading of the Spirit of Christ who dwells within us by the new birth when we are born from death into life by what Jesus did for us on the cross.
Paul's admonitions are for us to walk according to who we are. We do not create who we are, new creations in Christ, holy and righteous. We are to believe what God has said that He has made us. Our salvation is totally on God, we just receive what He has done and is doing constantly in us. We have a new life, the life of Christ in us. This is our new identity, we are a new species of being, a God man, act like it. God has raised us up to a new level on par with Him not by the law and our keeping the law. Jesus kept the law for us and through us as we follow the Spirit of God within us. We stood guilty before Him but now we stand justified. If we did not see ourselves as guilty we would not receive His free gift of salvation. Our righteousness is totally of Him and none of ourselves. He made us righteous and acceptable in His sight and He will keep us righteous and acceptable in His sight in Jesus.
