Devotions:
“Blessed is the man whom thou choosest, and causest to approach unto thee, that he may dwell in thy courts: we shall be satisfied with the goodness of thy house, even of thy holy temple.”
Psalms 65:4 KJV
“One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple.”
Psalms 27:4 KJV
God chooses us that we might approach Him. It is an awesome privilege to be able to approach the creator of the universe, the Almighty God. But is we do not treat this privilege with the respect and honor that is due Him we will lose His presence . He will continue to abide in us but we will not have access to His face because we have not valued His presence. Notice that to be in His presence is to be satisfied with His goodness. This is the only place that we can be satisfied because only God is good in the universe, there is no other good besides Him. His desire is to satisfy us with goodness not have us wallow in our sorrows. Sorrows are from the enemy who we give access through our ungodly behavior. Jesus came to save us from this ungodliness. The Psalmist new nothing of God's plan to create in man a dwelling place for His presence. So under the new covenant we are His temple.
In the second Psalm 27 we find the heart cry of the sweet psalmist of Israel, David. He had spent time in the presence of God as he praised and worshiped Him while attending his father's sheep. The more time he spent in God's presence the more time he wanted to spend in His presence. Focusing on the Lord created a voracious appetite to spend time with the Lord.
Oh God, create in us a heart that hungers to be satisfied only with your goodness and that that will be our primary focus.
