Baptism

Devotions:

“But Jesus said unto them, Ye know not what ye ask: can ye drink of the cup that I drink of? and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? And they said unto him, We can. And Jesus said unto them, Ye shall indeed drink of the cup that I drink of; and with the baptism that I am baptized withal shall ye be baptized:” ‭Mark‬ ‭10:38-39‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Here Jesus talks of a baptism that at this point has yet to be baptised with.  What is He talking about? He is speaking of His death, burial and resurrection.  He said that the disciples would also experience this baptism and so do all who accept Jesus' death on their behalf.  this is what is refered to being born again or born from above.  We were born out of death into life.  We were made new creatures, ones that had never existed before.

In the earth there are two races of humans, those of Adam's race which we are all born into and those of the new creation, Jesus' race.  We are of Him and He will never reject us.  He totally identified with us in our sin so that we were made just like Him.  We are of His bloodline.

Through out the New Testament in the epistles when baptism is talked about do not add water unless it specifically states water.  The new birth is a baptism and is of greater importance than water baptism.

“Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;” ‭Titus‬ ‭3:5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Baptism is a ceremonial washing.  Paul here tells us that the washing of regeneration, or the baptism of the new birth is what saves us and the renewing of the Holy Spirit, walking full of the Holy Spirit.
