The Eyes of the Lord

Devotions:

We are so unaware of the Lord's intense desire to help us in time of need.  He is waiting for us to recognize our need and call upon Him and He will surely answer.  God loves us and wants to protect us and provide for us but if we do not call upon Him, He cannot answer lest we attribute our help to some other source.

“For the eyes of the LORD move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His. You have acted foolishly in this. Indeed, from now on you will surely have wars."” 2 Chronicles‬ ‭16:9‬ ‭NASB‬‬

Here King Asa who had previously ten years earlier called upon the Lord when a great army attacked him and was delivered, did not call upon the Lord for deliverance but relied upon another King and made a covenant with him for deliverance.  This is the Lord's rebuke of him through the prophet.  The prophet was thrown in prison for delivering this rebuke to King Asa.

The first part of this rebuke reveals to us God's desire to help us.  He is not standing idly by waiting for us but He is seeking our those whose heart is totally His.  His desire is to show strong support to us if we are totally His.  As we look to Him, He will meet us at our point of need and according to the level of faith we have.  But He cannot meet us if we are not looking to His helping hand lest we give credit to ourselves or to someone else and be led astray.  So God is diligently seeking to support us, to heal us, to deliver us if we will look to Him with a whole heart.
