Simple Gospel
Devotions:
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.”
Romans 1:16-17 KJV
If the gospel is the power of God unto salvation, the what is the gospel? In order to bring someone to salvation we must know precisely what it is. What is the simple definition of salvation? In 1 Corinthians 15:3 we find Paul's definition, that Jesus died for our sins, was buried and rose on the third day. That is all that is necessary to believe to be saved and born again. When we believe and accept what Jesus did for us then the power of God and the Holy Spirit comes into us and makes us new creations, removing the old sinful nature and replacing it with a new holy and righteous nature. Paul was not ashamed because the gospel had recreated Him and done for Him what he could not do for himself, even though he was a very strict observer of the Law of Moses. It does the same for us because it is for everyone who will believe. God had faith in His salvation and the provision, righteousness so that when we believe, He conveys righteousness to us through the new birth. We then choose to live in that righteousness by faith. What is the gospel? It is the forgiveness of all our sins by the death of Jesus and because of forgiveness, the change in our nature by the new birth. What is our preaching? Jesus died for our sins, was buried and rose again on the third day. That simple.
