“Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God; Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints: To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus: Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.”
Colossians 1:25-29 KJV
This is the mystery of Christianity, Christ in us the hope of glory. This mystery gives the righteous relationship with our Father God not based on our actions or deeds but on Jesus' obedience. Paul's desire was to see every Christian be made perfect or mature. Them maturity is based on our understanding the life of Jesus in us and embracing the reality of His presence in us. This is the discipline of nations to see Christ produced in them at the new birth and them coming to a full realization of who they are in Christ. This means that they see themselves as the righteousness of God in Chirst, they see themselves as the holiness of God, they see themselves as the son or daughter of the most high God standing the place of favor with God because of Jesus.
Our maturity as a believer comes not by us trying to mature ourselves by keeping a bunch of rules and regulations nor by us trying to modify our behavior to live holy but by coming to a revelation of our identity in Chirst and acting like who we really are in Him.
Paul says in Galatians 2:20 that it is no longer I that lives but Christ that lives in me... I cannot take any credit for any part of my salvation, sanctification, justification, It is all God.
