God Is Jealous For You

Devotions:
“You’re cheating on God. If all you want is your own way, flirting with the world every chance you get, you end up enemies of God and his way. And do you suppose God doesn’t care? The proverb has it that “he’s a fiercely jealous lover.” And what he gives in love is far better than anything else you’ll find. It’s common knowledge that “God goes against the willful proud; God gives grace to the willing humble.”” James 4:4-6 MSG
“Ye adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore would be a friend of the world maketh himself an enemy of God. Or think ye that the scripture speaketh in vain? Doth the spirit which he made to dwell in us long unto envying? But he giveth more grace. Wherefore the scripture saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble.” James 4:4-6 ASV
We cannot walk in two different worlds at the same time. We cannot party with the world, think like the word, act like the world and walk intimately with God at the same time. When we look to our own devices and the world system rather than looking to God, we are walking like the world. We end up enemies of God who redeemed us and made us His own and close our ears to His ways. God greatly desires that we walk with Him exclusively and not go the way of the world. The Biblical language is that we have been married to Chirst and we are to be in that exclusive relationship with Him and mot mix intimacy with Him with the ways of the world.
“This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye no longer walk as the Gentiles also walk, in the vanity of their mind, being darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardening of their heart; who being past feeling gave themselves up to lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, in whom ye were sealed unto the day of redemption.”
Ephesians 4:17-19, 30 ASV
The picture of grieving the Holy Spirit is as if a new husband comes home early from work and finds his new bride in bed with another man. That other man is the wold and the world system. We live and function in this world but we are to get our leading from the Lord and we are to find our satisfaction, contentment and fulfillment from the Lord
