Dwelling Place

Devotions:
“Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident. One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple. For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.”
Psalms 27:3-5 KJV
Though Satan bring an overwhelming on slaught against the psalmist, he says that he is confident and has no fear. That onslaught could be the enemy acting through people to defeat you or it could be a major attack of sickiness and disease like cancer. When it comes your way will you be confident, will you have no fear of what it can do to you?
He says that in the time of trouble God will hide him in His tabernacle and set him upon a rock. Is this your confidence?
The psalmist says this because he has only one focus, and that is to dwell in the house of the Lord. This is his pursuit with all of his passion, to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of his life. Not just to go in and out from time to time but to dwell there, to behold the beauty of the Lord. When you behold the beauty of the Lord, it will captivate you. There is nothing on earth or in heaven that cam match the beauty of the Lord. Secondly he wants to beable to enquire in the temple of the Lord. To be able to feed on the wisdom to the Creator of the universe puts all of the onslaught of the enemy to naught.
We in the New Covenant have closer dwelling place before the Lord than the psalmist did because we have been made the righteousness of God. But as the psalmist this must be our single focuse, to dwell in the manifest presence of the Lord. This has to be our pursuit with all of our hearts. He dwells within us where as the psalmist knew Him from a far. How much more accessible is God's manifest presence to us but only as we lay aside all else to make the pursuit of His manifest presence our life goal.
