Unity And Love
December 14, 2017
Devotions:
The two things that the beginning of the church had that allowed the Lord to add to the church daily were the unity of the brethren and honoring His presence or hosting His presence. These are closely related.
The unity of the brethren was because they walked in love towards each other. They did not criticize, judge or gossip about each other. They held all things as common and were constantly worshipping God.
You cannot honor God without honoring fellow believers. Instead of putting people down we should be looking for ways to build them up and encourage them. When people are wrong we need to speak correction but in love, looking first to ourselves to see where we have missed it and even then we are to speak only what the Lord gives us to speak. Many times we do not know all that happened in others lives to bring them to the place where they are and so we cannot speak accurately into their lives just from carnal knowledge, that is knowledge that we gain from our five senses or what others tell us.
Jesus only said what He heard the Father speak. This has to be the way that we operate, we speak what we hear the Father say and nothing more.
“with all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; giving diligence to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”
Ephesians 4:2-3 ASV
“And the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not fit that we should forsake the word of God, and serve tables.
And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem exceedingly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.”
Acts 6:2, 7 ASV
