Swaddling Clothes

Devotions:

In the book of Luke the angels told the shepherds about the new born baby king. But what shocked them was the fact that the baby would be wrapped in swaddling clothes. These were special, Levitical shepherds whose job was to raise lambs for the Passover.  They had to be absolutely perfect lambs and in order to determine this they would take the new born lamb and wrap it in swaddling clothes to check for its perfection.  Even thought the shepherds did not understand the swaddling clothes on a baby, they knew that the swaddling clothes signified a sacrificial lamb.  God was declaring that Jesus, His Son, came to die as our sacrifice to take our place for our sin.

“And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.” ‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭5:18-19‭KJV

God reconciled the whole world by the death of Jesus. God no longer holds their sin against them nor our sins against us.  God no longer has a sin problem but a sinner problem and He solved that problem by the new birth.

Even in Christmas we celebrate the reason that Jesus was born a man so that He could become the sacrifice for our sins and totally satisfy justice on our behalf. This He did for the whole world but they must accept it for it to be effective for them.
