Repentence

December 27, 2017

Devotions:

When we turn from our own efforts to save ourselves and turn to salvation in Jesus, we receive the forgiveness that Jesus provided on the cross.  From that point on we are walking in that forgiveness. This is what John means when he says in 1 John 1:7, that if we walk in the light as He is in the light, His blood continuously cleanses us from all sin.  What is the light, that we are forgiven, made righteous and holy by His blood sacrifice.  So in our walk as Christians our repentence is to continually turn from who we were as a sinner to who we have been made as a new creation.  We are to turn from seeing ourselves as an outcast from God to being freely accepted in the beloved, Ephesians 1:6 KJV. We are to turn from seeing ourselves as unloved by God to seeing ourselves as loved by the Father as much as He loved Jesus. John 17:23.  We I turn from seeing ourselves as unworthy in God's sight to seeing ourselves as righteous and holy in His sight with His righteousness and holiness.

How do we do this? By renewing the spirit of our mind.  We cannot actually do this with our own ability but it is by the power of the Holy Spirit who dwells within us. His job is to reveal the meaning of the word to us because He is our teacher and to reveal Jesus to us and in us.

Of course in the process we will put away sin but our focus is turning from failed humanity to the completed world of Jesus for us and in us.  Jesus finished His work of redemption and sat down. We are to reach out in faith and embrace that finished work and allow Him to work it in us.

“But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:11‬ ‭KJV‬‬
