Sufficient Grace

Devotions:

“For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭12:8-9‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.”

‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭2:14‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭15:57‬ ‭KJV‬‬

When Paul says that Jesus told him that Jesus' grace was sufficient for him did not mean that Paul was expected to struggle along as best he could under his own strength.  As we see in the other two passages God always causes us to triumph and gives us the victory in and through Christ.  This was Jesus' point that we cannot win under our own strength but with His strength with in us we will always come out on top in the victory circle.  In whatever situation we find ourselves in if we will look to the greater one in us we will come out in victory.  We fail when we try to do it ourselves.

The thorn, the messenger of Satan that Paul was asking relief from was the persecution that followed him everywhere he went preaching the gospel.  As Paul learned to rely totally on Jesus, he was delivered.  Whether it is an outward battle against negative people and circumstances or an inward battle against sin, the victory is in the greater one within you and looking exclusively to Him.
