Jesus our Righteousness
Devotions:
“In those days, and at that time, will I cause the Branch of righteousness to grow up unto David; and he shall execute judgment and righteousness in the land. In those days shall Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely: and this is the name wherewith she shall be called, The Lord our righteousness.”
Jeremiah 33:15-16 KJV
In this prophecy we see Jesus refered to as the Branch of righteousness. We know that He was of the house and lineage of David. It says that He will execute judgement and righteousness in the land. We know from the New Testament that the judgement was that Jesus took our sins upon Himself and paid the full penalty for them from God. There is no more judgement for the believer in God's eyes. The judgement was executed by God on God, Jesus. The righteousness was that Jesus lived totally righteously and His sacrifice was in total accord with God's righteousness. Jesus paid the price to make us righteous without compromising God's righteousness. This is the salvation of Judah and yes the whole world. It is totally a work of God. The name that we are saved by is the Lord our Righteousness. So our righteousness totally depends on what God did and not what we do.
