Devotions:
“In that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.”
John 16:23-24 ESV
God cannot lie. If He did the whole universe would come apart because He upholds everything by the word of His power. So absolutely, God cannot lie. Here we have one of His prayer promises. First, Jesus said that we are not to pray to Him, we can worship, praise and adore Him but we are not to make our prayer request to Him but to the Father. Secondly we are to ask using the authority of the name of Jesus. Jesus said in Matthew 28: that all authority in heaven and on earth was given to Him, this is the authority behind His name and He gave us the legal right to use it. In doing so He was saying that whatever we ask has to line up with the integrity of that Name, if not we will not have any faith in what we ask. Secondly then all heaven backs our request to the Father. When we ask we need to see ourselves in possession of what we ask for because that the Father would give us what we ask for in the Name of Jesus (presenting all that He is). Not only will the Father grant what we ask in the name of Jesus but Jesus said that it is the Father's pleasure to answer our prayer.
“In that day you will ask in my name, and I do not say to you that I will ask the Father on your behalf; for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God.”
John 16:26-27 ESV
