Delighting in His Word
Devotions:
“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away." Psalms 1:1-4 KJV
What we see and hear affects our thinking and our thinking affects our faith. It is by faith bhat we enter into the grace which we stand. So if we are looking at the wrong things and listening to the wrong things then our thinking will be wrong and we will believe a lie about God and His goodness. David tells not to associate with the ungodly, the sinners not the scornful because as we associate with them we will begin thinking like them. We will start believing and walking in a lie.
He then tells us what to spend our time thinking on, the law of the Lord,, which is a description of His character. God will do nothing to hurt of defraud His creation. There are consequences to sin, both temporal and eternal. Jesus took all of the judgement for the eternal and gave us His Spirit to deliver us from the temporal. We are to delight in the law of the Lord and in His word. We are to not just read it or study it but to meditate on it so that we put down deep roots into God and drink. Freely of the river of His love for us. Then the enemy cannot snatch us up and uproot us from the ways of God. We are not to have a superfificial relationship with God which is dominated by our flesh but we are to walk by the Spirit and the Spirit comes to fulfill God's word. Meditate in God's word daily so that youo will be built up into Him in every area of life.
