“Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”
John 8:34-36 KJV
We have been set free from the power of the darkness through the sacrifice of Jesus. But if the enemy can convince us that we are still under his power we will be in bondage still, even through we were delivered by Jesus. The determining factor is what do we believe. It is by faith that we enter into the grace in which we stand. We must reprogram our minds with the word of God. We must condition ourselves to believe the word of God and act on it as the Holy Spirit gives us revelation. So we hold the word of God as just that, the word of God, the Almighty Creator of the universe. As we are a doer of His word we honor Him. We choose to believe what He has said over everything else that is said, no matter who says it. Paul tells us to study to show ourselves approved… that is to walk in our freedom we must accurately understand and interpret the word of God. Satan can use scriptures and he did against Jesus, Matthew 4.
When we understand our freedom in Christ we are not to use it as an occasion to indulge our flesh just because we are forgiven. The fruit of our flesh dominating us is destruction. We are dead to our flesh and alive unto God. This is our brokenness before God, always acknowledging that we can do nothing without God.
