First Love

Devotions:
“Grace and peace to you from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. He gave himself for our sins, so he could deliver us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father.” Galatians 1:3-4 CEB
This is a wonderful reality of the finished work of Jesus. He gave Himself for our sins to deliver us from the enemy. We rejoice in this salvation. We have been delivered from this present evil age to walk with Him. But the main point is not that we were delivered, as wonderful as that is, but that we might be united with our God. Our focus is not even our salvation but the reunion with Jesus and the Father. In all that we do we need to spend time with Jesus just to fellowship with Him daily.
“But I have this against you: you have let go of the love you had at first.”
Revelation 2:4 CEB
The church at Ephesus was doing the work of God, enjoying their salvation but they had left the most important thing, their first love of the Lord. Our works come out of our love for Him. Not our love for Him comes out of our works. We need to be white hot in love with our Savior and our Heavenly Father. We need to feed the fire of that love and fan it’s flame constantly through our words, through our actions acknowledging Him in all that we do. The most valuable thing that we have is our intimate relationship with God that He has given us in our salvation. He wants to be in the forefront of our lives not hidden away in a back corner covered by our works for Him. As you seek Him to draw near to Him, He will draw near to you. Pursue your first love with all of your heart and strength.
