Praying To The Father

Devotions:

“that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:” ‭Ephesians‬ ‭1:17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Paul is praying to the Father. Nowhere in the New Testament are we told to pray to Jesus, only the Father. Here Paul says he is praying to the God of our Lord Jesus Christ. This means that God the Father worked our salvation that we have in Jesus and was totally in approval with all that Jesus did.

God is the Father of glory. That is He is the source of all glory and goodness.  So Paul is praying to tap into the deep well of His goodness for the saints.  In salvation, all of God’s goodness is already ours. Paul is praying that we would have a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of God so we would know what is already ours. A spirit of wisdom is so that we would know how to operate in what is already ours. If you do not have a spirit of wisdom then you will act foolishly with what God has provided for you in salvation.  God does not want foolish children but wise sons and daughters.

People in the world and many Christians are trying to discover who they are, trying to find themselves. We will never find ourselves without God. When we find God and have revelation of God and His love for us we find ourselves. We therefore want to grow in the revelation knowledge of God.
