The Banqueting Table

Devotions:

“Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.” ‭Psalm‬ ‭23:5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The table that God prepares for us is a banqueting table. In the Old Testament God revealed Himself as El Shaddai, the God who is more than enough. He is not a just barely get along God but and God has a rich abundance that He wants to share with all. When He prepares a table in the presence of our enemies He is saying that the enemy is nothing. The enemy is left with no recourse but to just sit and watch us feast. Where God is, is secure because He is there. He is the security for those who follow Him. Our not following Him means that we are not willing to receive His help.

God does this because of the great love with which He loves us, not because of what we have done but because of what Christ did to secure our redemption. When we understand with our hearts, not just our mind, what Christ did, it changes our perception of our identity. Where as before we saw ourselves on the outside of God, an orphan, now we understand that we one with God, sons and daughters. Instead of begging for a few scraps to survive, we are seated at our Father’s banqueting table in spite of our enemies and in our enemies presence. We are no longer sinners saved by grace, we are new creations, created by God, in righteousness and holiness of truth. Get quiet and let that rumble around in your heart for a while.
