The Old Man Is Dead

June 21, 2022

Devotions:

“For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God. I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.” Galatians‬ ‭2:19-21‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The old me died at the foot of the cross.  This truth must become ingrained in our heart, in out thoughts and in our imagination. When I know that I died with Christ, sin no longer has any hold on me. I cannot kill myself. I am only called to recognize the finished work of Christ in whom I was crucified to the world and the world to me. I need to quit looking to the ghost of the old man who was crucified. The old man is repulsive to God but we keep trying to pretty him up to make him presentable to God. He will never be acceptable to God. That is why God had to kill him.

I was raised a new creation in Christ Jesus. I have His life and nature in me. I am no longer a sinner but a holy and righteous being. When I became a new creation in Christ, old things passed away and all things became new. I should not go grave robbing and dig up the old man with his wounds and injuries. Even after I was born again i walked in some unrighteousness but these were reverberations from the old man. To walk in victory I must walk in the reality that the old man is dead. If I am always trying to resurrect the old man of sin to make him acceptable to God I will fail every time.

Take the time to meditate on Galatians 2:20 until it gets down into your spirit. As you read it to meditate on it, put some emotion into your reading. This will make it become real to you quicker than just plain reading it.
