Victory Over Sin

Devotions:

“Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; And in sin did my mother conceive me.”

‭‭Psalm‬ ‭51:5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The moment we were conceived we had a sinful nature. The act of conception was not necessarily a sin but the lineage that Adam passed to us was a lineage of a sin nature. God overlooked that nature until we came to the age of reason. Because we were sinners at conception we sinned. And when we sinned we were trapped in sin and held in bondage to sin.

“Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” ‭John‬ ‭8:34-36‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Many get counseling to help deal with the sin if it is socially unacceptable but all that does is to change it into acceptable behavior. They do not get set free. The only one who can set them free is Jesus. He became our sin and died under the penalty of that sin and as many that receive Him, He gives new sin free life.

Many who have received Him are not walking in that new life because they are still trying to become acceptable to God by their works. That endeavor is a failure from the beginning. The only way that we are acceptable to God the Father is through the works of Jesus. We must be confident in what Jesus did for us as an expression of the love of the Father for us. We must be convinced that we have become that new creation created in Christ Jesus in righteousness and true holiness. I am not defined by what I do but by who I am in Christ. What I do then is dictated by who I perceive myself to be.
