“looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” Titus 2:13-14 KJV
This is an amazing fact, that our God gave Himself for us to redeem us and set us free from all iniquity. He was not forced to do this by any law or requirement but he requirement of love. He delivered us from darkness and translated us into His light. We no longer have to live by the dictates of sin. We are free to live in our Father’s love. The battle has been won but the key to us walking in the victory that Jesus won for us is whether we believe what He did or not. We can give mental assent to what the Bible says or we can get the truth established in our hearts so that we live by the reality of our redemption. We are encircled by God, taken to be His own special people that He might lavish His love upon us. This was all the doing of Jesus when He died for our sins on the cross and was raised three days later victorious over sin death and the devil for us.
Jesus made us on fire, a white hot fire, to do His will, which is good works. We should not try to get on fire but to acknowledge that by His doing we are on fire for the gospel and for the Lord and act that way. Feeling and motivation follow actions.
