Free From Sin
July 31, 2021
Devotions:
We walk around like Old Testament saints.
“Thou hast forgiven the iniquity of thy people, Thou hast covered all their sin. Selah.”
Psalm 85:2 KJV
They only had their sins covered. Their forgiveness was looking forward to the finished work of Jesus. On the basis of what Jesus would do, God saw it as a finished work but He could not remove those sins until Jesus came and became our sin and took the full punishment for our sin. If they understood the law of the sacrifice for sin, that it looked forward to the sacrifice of Jesus, they could be set free from that sin, but they still had their sin nature. We on the other hand have had our sin removed and we have been made new creations in Christ. We are no longer in our sin. We have been separated from the bondage due to the sinful act and also to the root of sin, our sin nature.
“For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised: and if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.” 1 Corinthians 15:16-17 KJV
Paul is saying that because of the resurrection of Christ, we are no longer in our sins. We are now the righteousness of God in Christ. We are dead, dead to sin , the flesh and the devil. Unless we know this in our hearts, we will not walk in the freedom that is ours.
“Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. Romans 6:12-14 KJV
