The Finished Work

Devotions:

Our salvation is totally done by God. We can add nothing to it and we can take nothing away from it. Salvation in the Old Testament among the Israelites was something that they were looking forward to. They had to act out of a sin nature. They could look to God for their salvation and to help them to walk with Him or they could ignore God and live by their own wits.

We have the same choice in the New Testament. We can look to God for His abundant provision or we can live by our own efforts. We have the advantage in the New Covenant of receiving the life and nature of God. Our living is by His life within us, embracing the finished work of Christ.

“For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.” ‭Romans‬ ‭5:10-11‬ ‭ESV‬‬

We do not have to act right to get saved or blessed. We are saved to act right. Our actions come out of our beliefs. We can and do put on a good show to cover our beliefs but the truth will come out about what we believe.

If you believe that you are just an old sinner saved by grace. No matter how much you try to act right and look good eventually you will act like an old sinner. But if you believe that you are a new creation in Christ Jesus and that you no longer live but Christ lives in you. You might do some wrong things but eventually your true new creation self will take over. The more you pray and feed on the word of God the quicker you will change your sinner thinking to new creation thinking
